Big Ben, Plaxico, Vick...A fair suspension?

With everyone throwing in their comments about the Big Ben situation, it is hard to avoid partaking in the conversation. For the last few months, as the fiasco developed, I avoided comment, but as I scroll through message boards and see that people are commenting on the “unfairness” of Big Ben’s suspension I cannot hold my tongue any longer. To people who are questioning the suspension and comparing it to Vick’s there is a difference. Vick was dog-fighting. Ben was accused of rape. Since there is a difference between Vick and Ben’s actions there is a difference of treatment. Likewise this is not Big Ben’s first accusation.

Furthermore, I want to assure everyone that I am  not saying that Ben is guilty, but I do not assume his innocence either. The fact of the matter is that the NFL is taking accusations more seriously and using Big Ben, Vick, and Plaxico as examples. It is unfortunate that football stars feel they are exempt from the law because of their occupation. And for anyone to complain about losing a star even though it is possible that they may have raped someone really makes me think that we need to question our priorities in this country.
